Christina presents an illustrated talk on pioneering American composer Ruth Crawford-Seeger at Huddersfield University exploring her unique, poetic and mystical style in her piano Preludes and string quartet to her more gritty and ferocious side in her Study for Mixed Accents. Tough times and a changing musical landscape forced Crawford Seeger to change career path and she became a significant folk music transcriber of over 300 American tunes and later became mother and teacher (through osmosis) to daughter Peggy Seeger.

Riley’s work inspired the Sound Mind project that grew from Christina’s collaboration with the IoPPN Department of Addictions in 2017. The IoPPN and pianist Christina McMaster invite you to a unique concert that combines the music of Pärt, Cage & Riley with a Virtual Reality experience. Lie down and feel the music move through you in this intimate concert, transcending reality by immersing yourself in music and VR technology, stimulating your creativity and wellbeing. The concert will be preceded by a short talk to explain the context of this very special musical experience. You will need to bring a smartphone with you to experience the VR, and the ticket price includes a complimentary cardboard VR headset. The IoPPN team will email you nearer to the concert with details of how to download the app accompanying the concert.
